Buitenverwachting, meaning “beyond expectation” is situated on the slopes of Constantiaberg. Rooted in deep, granite soils and cooled by the sea breezes from the nearby oceans, Buitenverwachting’s vines produce internationally acclaimed wines of great complexity with distinctive fragrant  profiles.

As stated in our previous blog, “Top 5 wine farms in Cape Town”, this spectacular wine farm was sold as a 200 morgen sub-division to Cornelis Brink in 1773 and has since flourished as a wine farm, due mainly to the 90 000 vines planted in 1825. 

The Coffee Bloc

The beautiful courtyard, with it’s elaborate water feature and greenery, houses the Wine Tasting Center – Coffee Bloc, where relaxed breakfasts, lunches and dinners can be enjoyed. Our recommendation is visiting the Buitenverwachting Coffee Bloc on  a relaxed, warm Saturday morning and ordering their Lemon & yogurt cake with a warm cuppa tea! Absolutely scrumptious.

Monday – Friday: 8h00 – 17h00
Saturday: 8h30 – 15h00
Breakfast served: 9h00 until 11h00
Lunch served: 12h00 – 14h00

Buitenverwachting Wine Tasting

The Wine Tasting experience is housed in the historic wine cellar with it’s traditional thatched roof, white washed walls and rare yellow-wood ceilings. The interior is casual, generously furnished with leather couches, small lounges and a tasting bar. The stone tiled terrace overlooks the lawns and magnificent 250 year old Norfolk Pine. Casual charcuterie platters with fresh baguettes are available as well as an artisan ale to cleanse your pallet.

Many visitors linger for hours and choose to purchase a bottle and relax on the lawns with friends and family. All wines are offered for tasting at a fee of R 50,00 (what a bargain!).
