Spring has finally sprung and we are more excited than ever! September is known for the month when all those vast brown fields, turn into rainbows of bright, vivid colors. So, what is better to do on a beautiful, summery day than go visit these stunning blankets of bloom? We have put together a colorful list for you of the top flower hotspots this Season around the Cape Town/Western Cape region:

1. Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens

Labeled as one of the world’s most beautiful gardens, the Kirstenbosch National Gardens are situated on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain. Established in 1913, this was the first botanic garden (again, in the WORLD) devoted completely to a country’s indigenous flora. Visit Kirstenbosch and see over 7 000 different plant species, or you could even take a virtual tour online! Make sure to take a walk on the famous ‘Boomslang’ whilst on your stroll.

2. The Canola Fields

Just an hour outside of Cape Town lies a spectacular sea of yellow flowers, that can be easily spotted in areas such as Bot River and Cotswold. This picturesque scene makes for the perfect Instagram pic so make sure to bring your cameras along with you on your road trip!

3. Darling Wild Flower Show

Housing over 1 200 species of flora, the quaint town of Darling is a must-see this time of year. Better yet, 80 of these species are endemic to the Western Cape, which means that they can’t be found anywhere else in the world! If this isn’t enough to convince you, then maybe these pictures will:

The show takes place annually over the third weekend of September, and this year’s show will be it’s 100th event! Ticket Prices Adults: R60, Scholars: R40.

4. West Coast National Park

During the 1st of August to the 30th of September, the protected area of Postberg within the park is open to the public. Take this chance to go and view the incredible landscapes which burst with all different colors of wildflowers.

5. Hermanus Flower Festival

Take the beautiful flowers home with you at this festival, where hundreds of locally grown flowers are on sale and on exhibition at the this year! With over 400 fynbos species, 10 landscaped demonstration gardens, and a herd of alpacas, this should definitely be added to your Spring to-do list.

6. Bontebok National Park

Bontebok National Park is a place of simplistic beauty and peaceful charm, and is also world-renowned as one of the most biologically diverse areas on earth. Kill two birds with one stone on this mini road trip and do some game-viewing whilst you’re at it!
