It’s time to bid farewell to Summer, and we March straight into Autumn in Cape Town! (Thank goodness, I think we can all agree that this heat has not been a vibe.) The brightness of summer gives way to a soft golden atmosphere and the southeasterly makes way for light breezes and cool days making it a great time to explore the outdoors.

Here’s some of our favourite reasons why Autumn is a great time to visit Cape Town.

Cape Town is a dream destination for lovers of the great outdoors. Hiking, especially on Table Mountain and Lions Head, is a popular activity among locals and visitors alike. If it’s your first time hiking Table Mountain, we recommend a guide like Table Mountain Treks!

Because there aren’t too many rainy days in autumn, adventure-enthusiasts will be able to get tick thrilling sports off their bucket lists. From shark cage diving to skydiving, there are heart-racing activities to get the adrenaline flowing. If you’re looking for animal encounters, we recommend a safari at Aquila Game Reserve and Spa where you’ll meet lions, rhino, buffalo, elephants and leopard on traditional game drive, quad bike or horseback safari.

While not quite like the festive season in December/January, March and April still have a celebratory vibe. It’s also around Easter time so there are usually some great Easter activities, like Easter egg hunts which the kids will love.

Temperatures in April are lovely! There’s an average of six days of rain in April so there are plenty of good days to enjoy the outdoors. It’s advisable to layer and pack in a lightweight jacket as the temperature drops in the evenings.

What’s a trip to the Mother City without enjoying the amazing food and wine on offer? A visit to Groot Constantia, the oldest wine-producing farm in the Cape, is a must. In Autumn, the vineyard is carpeted in colorful Fall leaves, making it a romantic setting for your day of wine-tasting in the southern suburbs.

While the air is cooler, it’s still a great time to enjoy a meal outside and take in the spectacular views at any of Cape Town’s restaurants with outdoor seating.
